H&R UK - "School Day's..."

To some people their time at school were some of  the happiest days of their lives, whilst others simply couldnââ?¬â?¢t wait to leave, but for two H&R ChemPharm (UK) employees going ââ?¬Ë?back to schoolââ?¬â?¢ has proved to be a very worthwhile experience.

As part of a company initiative to forge closer links with the local community, and in doing so give something back, Suky from the Finance team and Nav from Product Development volunteered their skills and time to help out in local schools.

Suky has taken up the challenge of a Reading Volunteer at Tipton School, and for a few hours a week helps students in the 9-11 age group improve and develop their reading skills.

Commenting on the experience, Suky said; ââ?¬Ë?itââ?¬â?¢s a really fulfilling role, especially when you see how the pupils confidence and self esteem grows as their reading improvesââ?¬â?¢.

Elsewhere, Nav has been along to Tividale Academy, providing her scientific expertise on the Judging Panel of a ââ?¬Ë?Bath Bombââ?¬â?¢ competition, which formed part of an ââ?¬Ë?Apprenticeââ?¬â?¢ style school project.

Following on from this Nav was asked to give an impromptu presentation on what working in a Science based role is all about.

As a result of her visit Nav was invited to become an Ambassador for STEM, (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), for schools in the local area.

Nav said of her experience, ââ?¬Ë?itââ?¬â?¢s really been a fantastic opportunity to get the students involved in Science and Technology, and give them a insight into what itââ?¬â?¢s like to work in theareaââ?¬â?¢.  She went on to add; ââ?¬Ë?Who knows, maybe Iââ?¬â?¢ve played a small part in encouraging one of two of the students to become the Scientists of Tomorrow!ââ?¬â?¢
